Bob Parks writes about the people behind various, um, electronic devices.  Stuff that could save your life, or take your arm off, depending on which button you push.  He's author of the book Makers: All Kinds of People Making Things in Garages, Basements, and Backyards (O'Reilly Media, 2006), and contributes to the magazines Wired, Make, Popular Science, and Runner's World.  Bob has worked as a freelance writer since 2001, when he left a post as Senior Associate Editor of Wired magazine.  He worked as an editor there from 1995 to 2001, directing two magazine sections and developing future stories on emerging tech.  In October 1999, the staff of Wired honored one of his feature stories, Anatomy of a Spam, by nominating it for the National Magazine Awards as "Best Story in the Public Interest."  Bob attended Bates College, graduating with a major in English.  In his spare time, he's a runner and a tinkerer.  He lives in Brattleboro, Vermont, with his wife and two children.
